DigitalOcean launches GPU droplets in a second EU region

DigitalOcean opened GPU droplets in a second European region after capacity pressure built up in the first.

DigitalOcean put GPUs in another EU region. If the first region felt permanently waitlisted, check the new code before you bolt a second cloud onto the architecture diagram. Same SKU family, wider map.

Why a second region matters

Data residency and latency are not abstractions when your users are in Europe and your training job chatters to a nearby API. A second region gives you a chance to place workloads closer without leaving DigitalOcean’s tooling. It also spreads demand so one crowded zone is not the entire story.

Capacity can still vanish at peak. A launch blog post is not a reservation system. If you need GPUs on Monday for a demo, provision on Thursday and hold them, or accept the risk.

Migration tip

Update Terraform, doctl scripts, and mental defaults. Copy-pasting the old region keeps you on the crowded pool. Confirm pricing pages for the new region before you assume perfect parity in every add-on.

DigitalOcean’s move is infrastructure relief, not a new model API. Take the relief. Check the region string twice.

Cost and networking checks

Price egress between the new region and your databases. A cheap GPU beside expensive cross-region traffic is a false bargain. Test snapshot restore times in the new region before you call it home. Update monitoring labels so dashboards do not merge two regions into one misleading healthy chart. DigitalOcean added capacity. Your network diagram has to admit the new box exists.

Quota and support

Ask support early about GPU quota in the new region if you plan a burst; do not discover limits mid-fine-tune. Save the ticket ID next to your capacity plan. Multi-region GPU without quota planning is just multi-region disappointment. DigitalOcean expanded the map. Quotas decide whether your pin on that map does anything. Also duplicate your alerting rules with the new region label before the first training job starts overnight.
